ALL KINDS OF SWEETS: HEALTHY OR NOT?

When thinking about sweets, the value they have nutritionally is something to think about. We never think about that when it comes to sweets. Sweets are good. Growing up, I really didn't eat sweets much. When I got older, I knew that I had a sweet tooth that had to be satisfied every now and then; it wasn't something I had to have all of the time. Cookies, cakes, candies, pastries, jellies, and the like is what kids like, and adults as well. We all have that special sweet treat that we enjoy having.

Back to the nutritional value of sweets. Sugar plays a big role in sweets as do other things that make them taste good. The words on the back of the containers are sometimes hard to pronounce which concludes that we don't know what we are eating. It is good that we can look up those words to see what they mean and what they are, and what we are putting into our bodies. I am not saying that sweets are bad, but I am saying that they are not healthy. Some sweets are loaded with calories, salt for freshness, and sugar to give it flavor.

There are sweets that are gluten-free, fat-free, and sugar-free, but what gives them flavor? Are they loaded with artificial flavorings and sweeteners? I have tried some of those and they taste the same to me. Are they less fattening? Do they have fewer calories? What's used to keep them preserved for consumption when they are purchased for consumption? What is the shelf life of those kinds of products? To be honest, I would really like to know.

Whenever someone has their favorite sweet treat, it makes them smile; it makes them feel good. It is something about sugar that gives us that happy feeling. So, what's your opinion about sweets? Healthy, or unhealthy? It's alright to have sweets as long as it is done in moderation. Too much of anything isn't good for anyone, so we have to watch it when it comes to sweets. Enjoy what you like to eat when it comes to your favorite sweets, just don't overdo it. Until next time, have what you like.
