‭‭Matthew‬ ‭9‬:‭37‬-‭38‬ ‭KJV

Matthew 9:37–38 records Jesus describing the spiritual need of the world and urging His followers to pray for people who will serve and share God’s message.

> “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

> Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”

> — **Matthew 9:37–38, KJV**

Meaning

- **“The harvest”** refers to people who are spiritually receptive and in need of God’s compassion and truth.

- **“The laborers”** are those willing to serve—teaching, evangelizing, encouraging, helping, and caring for others.

- **“The Lord of the harvest”** identifies God as the one who directs the mission and calls people to participate.

- **“Pray”** shows that ministry begins with dependence on God rather than human effort alone.

The passage follows Jesus’ compassion for crowds who were “faint” and “scattered,” presenting Christian service as a response to human spiritual need. It also leads into Matthew 10, where Jesus sends His disciples to carry out the work for which He told them to pray.
