SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 12:15
Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord Jesus, Heavenly Father,
Thank You for allowing us to be here on this Earth one more time. Thank You for watching over us, taking care of us, and for always providing for us. Thank You for everything that You did in the past, for what You are doing now, and for what You are going to do in the lives of your children. Thank You for sending Your one and only Son into this world to die for our sins. You did not have to do it but You did, and thank You, Jesus for Your sacrifice. Thank You for taking the punishment that we deserved so we could be able to be called sons and daughters of God. Thank You for everything. What You did for us will never be forgotten. All praise, glory, and honor be given to You, Heavenly Father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who was and is and is to come. In Jesus’ Mighty name, Amen.🙏🏾
MESSAGE: Do Not Be Defiled By the Root of Bitterness
We all have had things said to us that hurt us deeply. We all have been mistreated by those who say that they love us. That pain sometimes never go away, it lingers for a very long time. Yes, we want to hold on to it to remember what was done to us, but what we fail to realize is that we are only hurting ourselves even more by holding on to that pain instead of letting it go. Holding on to pain festers and turns into hate, bitterness, envy, and strife. Depression joins, stress joins, and anxiety joins in on all of the other feelings that are lingering inside of you until you come to the point to where you do not want to face the real reality that you need to forgive those who have hurt you. You do not want to give anyone power over you by holding on to the hurt they caused by not forgiving them. You also have to forgive yourself for letting the root of bitterness arise inside of you and take root inside of your heart, soul, and mind.
Yes, it is hard to forgive someone when they have hurt you. It is not in your own strength that forgiveness is easy, but it is in God’s strength that He gives us to forgive those who have hurt us. When we forgive someone, we are freeing ourselves from them. We are placing them in God’s hands so He can deal with them in His own way in His own time. We will not be firgiven unless we forgive those who have wronged us. It doesn’t matter how long it has been, forgive to be forgiven.
When Jesus was on the cross, He said,” Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” He forgave us . He was not just talking about those who were doing what they were doing in those hours, but He was talking about all of us. He was talking about every human being that will ever be born on this Earth. Sin is sin no matter who causes it. Jesus forgave them for what they were doing . He knew what was going to take place before it happened because He told the disciples everything even though He knew they would be upset and afraid. He knew they would not understand His destiny, but in the end of it all they did. This is why we need to understand how important it is to not let the Root of Bitterness dwell within our hearts. It is important to be quick to forgive as hard as it may be. Do not become defiled by the root of bitterness. It is not a pretty sight for anyone. Jesus does not want us to be bitter about anything. He doesn’t want us to have it among us. His heart is filled with joy, love, kindness, peace, and happiness for all mankind.
This is why we pray. We pray to God through Jesus Christ to help us to not let those things such as bitterness, hate, envy, and strife come into our hearts. We pray to God to help us discern right from wrong. We pray to God for guidance, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to be able to cast those things away from us that we should not have in our hearts. For our God is a consuming fire. ( Hebrews 12:29).
CLOSING PRAYER:
Thank You, Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for teaching us how to live for You. Thank You for showing us Your love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and loving kindness. You inhabit the praises of Your people, and Your mercies are new every morning. Thank You, Jesus , in Your name, Amen.🙏🏾
