âWhy Gratitude is a Spiritual Disciplineâ
By Stepping Out On Faith Trusting God
đż Introduction
Gratitude is more than saying âthank youââitâs a daily spiritual decision to acknowledge Godâs goodness, even when life feels heavy. Practicing gratitude as a spiritual discipline trains our heart to trust, our mind to reflect, and our soul to rest in Godâs faithful presence.
đ
1. What Is Gratitude as a Spiritual Practice?
Gratitude is a posture of humility. It turns our hearts away from entitlement and toward worship. When we treat gratitude as a disciplineânot just a feelingâwe are choosing to keep our focus on God, no matter the circumstance.
âGive thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godâs will for you in Christ Jesus.â
â1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NIV)
đą Cross-References:
Colossians 3:15â17 â Let the peace of Christ rule⊠and be thankful.
Psalm 100:4 â Enter His gates with thanksgivingâŠ
đ
2. Jesus Modeled Daily Gratitude
Jesus gave thanks before performing miracles. He gave thanks in times of fellowship and in times of trial.
âThen Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seatedâŠâ
âJohn 6:11 (NIV)
He even gave thanks before facing the cross (Luke 22:19).
đą Cross-References:
Matthew 15:36 â He gave thanks and broke the loaves.
Psalm 116:17 â I will sacrifice a thank offering to YouâŠ
đ
3. Gratitude Shifts Our Spirit
Gratitude turns:
Worry into worship
Bitterness into beauty
Waiting into trusting
When you pause to thank Godâeven in the middle of painâyouâre choosing faith over fear.
âDo not be anxious about anything⊠but with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.â
âPhilippians 4:6 (NIV)
đą Cross-References:
Hebrews 12:28 â Be thankful and worship God acceptablyâŠ
Psalm 34:1 â I will bless the Lord at all timesâŠ
đ
