What Caused COVID-19? Where Did It Come From? Is It Airborne?

COVID-19 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is believed to have originated from an animal source before being transmitted to humans through a seafood and live animal market in Wuhan, China ¹. The exact origin of the virus is still under investigation.

COVID-19 is primarily spread through respiratory droplets that are transmitted when an infected person breathes, coughs, talks, or sneezes ¹. These droplets can be inhaled by people nearby or land on surfaces that others may touch. You can also get infected by touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with hands or fingers that have the virus on them.

Yes, COVID-19 is airborne, and people are more likely to get infected through droplets and particles that circulate in the air if they are within 6 feet of an infected individual ¹. This is why social distancing and wearing masks are crucial in preventing the spread of the virus.
